PTA

If you are looking at this page, you might be wondering what the PTA does, who they are and how it all works at Fairford Primary School.  Well I shall try to explain...

Our Aim

The PTA aims to raise additional money for the school through organising and holding a range of FUN events throughout the school year.  Events held last year were the Fireworks (in conjunction with St Mary's Church), school discos, Christmas Bazaar, quiz night, Mother's Day stall, cake stalls, a sponsored gym event and the Summer Fete. We also organise and run many other fundraising initiatives, including the "Buy at" website.

The Money

Thanks to the committee, support from local businesses and our band of willing helpers who worked very hard last year, we raised over £6,000.  In 2007 - 2008 YOUR money was used to buy recycling bins for each classroom, DVD players, part fund a whole school trip to the Pantomime, pay towards the Christmas party, buy outside tables, have new playground markings, £5,000 (some from previous years profits) has been allocated towards the cost of redeveloping the school grounds and building an "outside classroom", and approximately £2000 has been earmarked for the purchase of a new media centre for the School Hall.

In previous years the money raised has paid for Interactive White Boards in each classroom, library equipment, the building of the scooter path and the outside play equipment, so I'm sure you will agree that your money has been put to good use.

The Committee

We have a very enthusiastic, experienced and committed PTA team this year, with many members staying on from last year and several new members too.

We have regular meetings where we discuss fundraising ideas, plan events and determine how funds will be spent.

 The Committee is as follows:

Liz Taylor - Chair, Judith Alborough - Vice Chair, Becky Davis - Secretary, Suzanne Saggers - Assistant Secretary, Clare Merrington - Treasurer.

We are very well supported by the other members - Alan Alborough, Dave Bull, Steve Darley, Donna Griffith, Sarah Homer, Chris Landa-Font, Penny Maunder, Brian Prosser, Madeleine Tierney, Marie Thompson, Sarah Upshon, Helen Walker and Paul Wilson.  Plus we have Jane Sparling and Maxine Perryman from the school staff and Caroline Shearer as the Governor link.

Helpers

As I'm sure you appreciate the PTA Committee give up lots of hours of their own time to raise money for the children and the school, but many of them work full time and are therefore unable to help with events during the school day.

We also rely heavily on support from parents to run events particularly for the Christmas Bazaar and the Summer Fete, and without your help these events could not go ahead, so if you can spare AN HOUR or two to set up, man a stall or tidy at the end of an event, all help is very gratefully received.

If you have any comments or would like to contact the PTA please ring me or get in touch via the School Office.
