The project titled 'Friendship for Life - listen, learn and understand about different cultures' will run for three years until 2009 - subject to a successful re-application for the final two years in 2007. Our partner schools are the 47th Primary School of Iraklio in Crete and Ronnbyskolan School in Sweden.
At Fairford we make every effort to involve the children in international activities to broaden their outlook and develop them as global citizens. We have just come to the end of a very successful project called 'Gardens for Life'. The project encouraged children to develop an understanding of food issues on a global level together with schools in India and Kenya.
Participating in such projects allows our children to:
- develop an understanding and tolerance towards other cultures
- share what we have in common and learn from each other
- make direct contact with children from other countries
- enable children to counter cultural bias in all forms by enabling them to develop informed views and opinions
- appreciate different languages and cultures
- encourage respect for the cultural, linguistic and religious diversity in the world.
Participation in the Comenius Project will also help to develop the children's awareness and understanding of their position as active citizens within Europe. Over the three years pupils in the participating schools will share information using many different forms of correspondence, letters, faxes, e-mails and video. They will also be part of disseminating information about the project to a wider audience, parents, governors and the local community which will increase their presentation, speaking and listening skills.
October 2007 Mrs Sparling, Mrs Nelson & Mrs Williams visited 47th Primary School of Iraklio Crete. February 2008 Six Teachers from Fairford Primary School visited Ronnbyskolan in Sweden. May 2008 Teachers from Ronnbyskolan and 47th Primary School of Iraklio visited Fairford Primary School
